Wedding Gift Guide: Registry Tracking, Thank-You Notes, and More

Between the registry, the card box, Venmo transfers, and group gifts, keeping track of who gave what — and sending every thank-you — is easy to stay on top of when it's all in one place.
Pudding logs every gift the moment it's recorded, so by the time your wedding weekend wraps up, your full gift list, thank-you note tracker, and spending summary are already done.
The average US wedding gift now lands between $100 and $150 per guest. With 150 guests, that's $15,000 to $22,500 in gifts. Tracking every gift accurately means everyone gets the thank-you they deserve.
Where to find it
You can view your full gift overview under Guest Management → Gifts tab. Total received, per-guest gift details, and category breakdowns are updated in real time as entries come in.
The Gifts tab is automatically populated as data is entered from the reception desk. No separate input is needed. It updates in real time while check-in is in progress.
Before you start: Set your cost benchmarks
Before the wedding, set two numbers: cost per plate and thank-you card cost. Cost per plate is what you're paying per guest for the reception meal (e.g., $85 per head). Thank-you card cost covers the card plus postage (e.g., $3 to $5 per guest).
You can change these at any time. Even if you edit them later, all guest calculations are instantly recalculated.

How each guest's gift is automatically calculated
When a gift is logged, the math happens automatically:
Sarah & Mike Johnson
Gift: $200 (registry item)
Meal: 2 plates (2 x $85 = $170)
Thank-you card: Sent ($4)
Total cost: $174
Net: $26
The moment a gift is entered, costs are calculated. When you mark a thank-you note as sent, the postage cost is immediately reflected.
Real-time dashboard
You can check the status in real time even while the wedding is in progress. Total guest count, total gifts received, total costs, net balance, and thank-you note completion rate are all visible at a glance.
All items are automatically tallied the moment data comes in.

Thank-you note tracking
This is the feature couples love most. With one filter, you can see exactly who still needs a thank-you note.
Etiquette says thank-you notes should go out within three months of receiving a gift, but the sooner the better. Pre-wedding gifts should get a note within two to three weeks. Pudding tracks every gift alongside its thank-you status, so nothing falls through the cracks.
For example, if you received 87 registry gifts, 34 cash or digital transfers, and 12 group gifts, you can filter by "Note not sent" to see exactly who's waiting.
Break thank-you notes into daily batches. Writing 5 to 10 per day makes the task manageable instead of overwhelming. See the reception desk guide for tips on capturing gift details at check-in.

Gift type tracking
Wedding gifts come in many forms. Registry items, cash in a card box, Venmo or Zelle transfers, checks, and group gifts all need to be logged differently. Mark each gift with its type, and you'll have a clear picture of what came in and how.
"Did Aunt Lisa's check clear?" or "Which registry items need a return?" Filter by gift type and you'll see immediately.

When you need to correct an entry
Logged something wrong? No problem. Select the guest entry in the Gifts tab, update the gift amount, number of plates, or thank-you status on the edit screen. Save, and the entire dashboard total is instantly recalculated.
